Great talk! Two quick things: 1. Shopbots rock. Everything you see on our site was made with one. CNC routers in general are really keen. They also can do full 3D models too (3-axis, and by using registration pins & flipping materials you can do double-sided)! 2. Sadly, yes, there is no decent open-source design-to-G code software (that we know of, we love to be wrong about things). However, there is one company making pretty affordable CAM software that at least wasn't written in VB in the early 90's (like most of it seems to be): vectric.com. 3. (ok, we lied about the two thing) Thanks for the Blender shout-out. Us Blender users have to stick together! Hey Bre! Great talk! Two quick things:

Will you be at craft night tomorrow? I was planning to come and wanted to a. run my snooping around with a notebook by you and b. see if I might have you show me around NYCR afterward. My number is 510.2857693. E-mail: katyakumkova@gmail.com. (I've also been in touch with Raphael over winter break, so he should know about me as well.) Many thanks in advance! My mom has one like it; the thing will sew through anything. I can remember her repairing heavy canvas tents, making heavy-duty camping gear with it, and of course all my Halloween costumes (except the year I went dressed as a sack of groceries....). Can't wait to play around with the software and make some patterns. You are lucky to have that old Singer sewing machine. My mom has one like it; the thing will sew through anything. Good project. This is something I can make with my 8 year old daughter who learned to sew last year... As a note, I watch on an iTouch (episodes downloaded in iTunes) and love the quick format. I prefer to watch 10 to 20 different shows in 1 hour that cover the spectrum each night, as opposed to spending the hour only learning about one concept. So, I hope you keep these up. I like it!
